Our Expat Cinema is back! On Sunday July 30 we will screen 'Il Sol Dell'Avvenire', the new film by Italian director Nanni Moretti, in which he portrays a film director struggling to make a film.
A movie director struggles with his relationship with his family, and with his latest movie, about the impact on the Italian Communist Party of the USSR invasion of Hungary in 1956.In his new film, Moretti jumps back and forth between past and present, fantasy and reality. This Italian bittersweet drama is beautifully crafted and one of Moretti's most personal films to date.
In the legendary Cinecittà studios in Rome, the shoot for Giovanni's latest film have started. While he has to keep his actors in check and direct circus elephants, his marriage to producer Paola (Margherita Buy) is falling apart. Politics, love and a colourful circus demand his attention, on set and outside of it.
Moretti works together with actress Margherita Buy ('Mia Madre'). Mathieu Amalric plays a hilarious part as energetic, but untrustworthy French coproducer. 'Il Sol dell'Avvenire' was selected for the Cannes film festival.
