Paris, early 20th century. When the destitute street performer Suzanne is mistaken for a spiritual medium by the desperate painter Antoine Balestro, she decides to go along with his story.
Since the death of his wife Irène, Antoine has lost both himself and his inspiration, and clings to the belief that Suzanne can make contact with her. Art dealer Armand, who has a vested interest in getting Antoine to paint again, forces Suzanne to maintain the illusion. But what begins as an improvised scam gradually brings Suzanne and Antoine closer together.
La Vénus électrique was the opening film of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
