Javier Bardem plays film director Esteban Martinez, a legend both for his impressive body of work and his infamous past of drinking, violence and excess. After thirteen years away, he returns to Spain to shoot his new film. Unexpectedly, he offers the leading role to his estranged daughter Emilia, an actress whose career has struggled to take off.
What begins as an opportunity for reconciliation soon turns into an emotional minefield: as father and daughter work together on set, the boundaries between fiction and reality begin to blur, and old wounds inevitably resurface.
Director Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Las Bestias, Madre) brings out one of the most layered performances of Javier Bardem’s career.
